Overview
Year after year, this 19 billion dollar organization increased its IT spending to
support its global business objectives. In order for the global IT organization
to remain agile, departments were segmented into distinct programs. As a result,
over time the organization became constrained in its ability to deliver integrated
solutions. This prompted an initiative to consolidate and integrate program
activities in order to realize business objectives.
Identifying the most strategic integration opportunities that would accelerate the
global business strategy, Fino Consulting was asked to lead the integration activities
across the organization's programs and deliver an integrated solution framework.
Approach
After reviewing the business expectations of each program, Fino Consulting met with
key representatives and outlined an approach and plan for integration. High-level
requirements were documented and then reviewed with program representatives.
Collaborate workshops were then conducted in order to draw out consensus and articulate
an integration framework. A solution framework was then detailed and distributed
to project leaders.
Solution
The integration approach was focused on accelerating individual program growth by
segmenting responsibilities. Teams were asked to "divide and conquer."
This allowed program teams to meet more of their stakeholder's requirements.
In addition, the team was able to delegate more activities to remote resources.
This solution simultaneously advanced the organization's off-shoring ambitions.
The team agreed to use industry standards such as web services and common infrastructural
services such as enterprise messaging. The framework then was structured with
a service oriented and message-driven architecture. The framework positioned
the business to achieve its most strategic initiatives.
Tools and Techniques
Fino Consulting leveraged numerous tools and techniques in order to deliver an integrated
solution framework including:
- the Rational Unified Process ("RUP"),
- Event-Driven Architecture ("EDA"),
- Service Oriented Design ("SOA"),
- Message Oriented Design ("MOM"), and
- Web-Services ("WS")
